Mineral

5. Magnesium

Supports hundreds of enzymatic reactions, required for ATP utilization, muscle relaxation, nerve transmission, blood-sugar regulation, electrolyte balance, protein synthesis, and the activation or utilization of several vitamins. Stress can increase demand, and digestive losses, sweating, pregnancy, breastfeeding, medications, and chronic stress can further affect status.

Glycinate — commonly used for nervous-system support, muscle tension, sleep, and general supplementation. Usually less laxative than citrate; glycine can have calming effects, though a small number of people experience unexpected activation.

6. Folate

Folate is frequently discussed as though everyone with an MTHFR variant requires methylfolate. That overlooks the rest of the pathway. Folate processing depends on multiple enzymes, transporters, cofactors, and nutrient relationships, including MTHFR, MTHFD1, MTHFS, SHMT1, SLC19A1, MTR, and MTRR.

Methylfolate can help some people. It can also create headaches, agitation, sleep disruption, irritability, or overstimulation when introduced too quickly or without adequate support.

Forms Hydroxocobalamin, adenosylcobalamin, methylcobalamin, and cyanocobalamin. Hydroxocobalamin is often a useful starting form for people sensitive to methyl donors.
